Socially Conscious Jewelry

A few weeks ago, I stumbled across a business called The Andean Collection, which sells socially conscious jewelry made by artisans in South America.  The beads for the jewelry are made from seeds and other natural rainforest materials, and through The Andean Collection, artisans are able to support their families.  The pieces would be great for a bold wedding style or every day wear.  Check out the Andean Collection Blog for up-to-date information on the company.  Here's a few of my favourites :

EcoShift

This Sunday, September 26th, EcoShift is taking place.  It's a full day event to promote green living, which includes daytime events at the Asper Jewish Community Campus.  In the evening, there is a keynote address at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue by Dr. David Suzuki.  Tickets are $20, which is a really good price for a rare opportunity!  I'm really excited to be part of organizing the evening portion of the day, and hope to see all my blog readers there!

Winnipeg Green Show!

After a couple of super busy weeks, today is getting a late start.  Actually, today is pretty much getting no start as it's 3:30 and I'm starting to look at my work for the week...however, after being a pretty negligent wife and mom for the past couple weeks, today there is food in my cupboards and my son is wearing clean clothes again :)

Last week I helped to plan a media dinner to promote the Winnipeg Green Lifestyle & Organic Living Show.  I wish I had pictures, because it was really a great night, but I don't.  The Show organizers held a Big Green Dinner at Kimch'i Cafe in the Exchange District.  Dinner was prepared by the chefs from the Fairmont, Diversity Foods, Dandelion Eatery, and Kimch'i.  I rarely eat at events (and never eat warm food), but at the Big Green Dinner I got to sit down and enjoy one of the best meals I've ever tasted.  I was also fortunate to sit at the same table as Judy Wasylycia-Leis, who was really lovely and has some great ideas on how to run this city.

Over the weekend the Winnipeg Green Lifestyle Show took place at the Convention Centre.  I set up my booth to look like a vintage garden-party, inspired by a stack of vintage ribbon that my husband found in our storage room. I met many engaged couples and people that were willing to pass on my card to couples that they knew, and also made some good connections for non-profit and corporate events.  I was super impressed with the show and the turnout....Here's a few photos of my booth:

 Adrienne and I:

I used mason jars tied to sticks as a garden-y vase.  All flowers were from Strawberry Lane at the St. Norbert Farmers' Market:

I love these round yellow flowers.  Does anyone know what they are?

Mismatched china place settings:

My sister-in-law, Char, was a really good sport and pulled this driftwood out of the riverbank for me.  It turned out to be exactly the look I was hoping for:

If anyone reading is here for the first time after meeting at the Green Show, thanks for stopping by!  Please check out this page for more information on our services.  We have openings for complimentary consultations this week and next week, and we'd love to sit down and talk about your next event!

EcoShift Winnipeg

On September 26th, The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg's Next Generation Leadership Division (J-PEG) is organizing the first EcoShift event.  During the day their will be all kinds of green education, exhibits, activities and prizes at the Asper Jewish Community Campus.  In the evening, Dr. David Suzuki will be doing a presentation at the Shaarey Zedek (561 Wellington).  I'm really looking forward to this event (I'll be helping to coordinate the evening portion), and it's been really exciting to see over the past few months, that the EcoShift committee has already inspired individuals and businesses to improve their green agenda.

Check out more about this event by clicking here, and don't forget to take the EcoShift Pledge!
